Get permission from the referee. it can be a clear signal which can be given during play.

What should the referee do to a player who re-enters the field of play without permission after being ordered to leave because of incorrect equipment or forbidden items?

A

The referee cautions the player. If play is stopped when the referee issues the caution, an indirect free kick is awarded from the place of the ball when play stopped. If the player interferes with the ball a direct free kick is awarded. this also means a penalty kick if inside the penalty area.
