Administrative Law
law that is in relation with people and government boards. e.g. the liquor control board
Bylaws
Laws that deal with local issues, they are made by municipal government
Civil/Private Law
private law is the same thing as civil law. it deals with the relationships of people between people, rather than people and the government
Constitutional Law
Law category that deals with the distribution and exercise of government powers
Contract Law
Branch of civil law. deals with agreements between people and business
Criminal Law
Law that identifies crimes and prescribes punishment. deals with relationship of people and the government.
Distinguishing a Case
when a judge decides that the case is so different from any previous case, that a new decision must be made for the case at hand
Domestic Law
Law that governs activity within a nations borders, does not deal with things outside country, place etc.
International Law
Law that governs relations between independent nations
Jurisdiction
The political or legal authority to pass and enforce laws, or the judicial authority to decide a case
Procedural Law
The law that prescribes methods of enforcing the rights and obligations of substantive law. eg. a cop cannot arrest someone for no reason, they need a reason.
Property Law
Branch of civil law, it governs ownership rights in property
Public Law
Law that deals with relationship between individuals and the state (government)
Statute Law
A law or act passed by a government
Substantive Law
Law that defines rights, duties, obligations of citizens and government
