Lauge-Hansen Classification System Flashcards
Ligaments of the Medial Collateral Ligament Complex
Ant. and Post. Tibiotalar
Tibiocalcaneal
Tibionavicular
Tibiospring ligament
AITFL stands for
Anterior-Inferior TIBIO-fibular ligament
ATFL stands for
Anterior TALO-fibular Ligament
Ligaments of the Lateral Collateral Ligament Complex
ATFL, PTFL, and calcaneofibular ligaments
Ligaments of the Syndesmotic Ligament Complex
AITFL, PITFL, and transverse tibiofibular ligaments and Interosseous membrane
Most common fracture pattern
SER (40-70% of all ankle fractures)
SER Stage 1
AITFL fracture, radiographically occult (subtle widening of tibia-fibula overlap on AP)
SER 2
Stage 1 + Spiral fracture of the lateral mal at the level of the plafond in a low ant., high post. direction
SER 3
Stage 1 and 2 + PITFL or Post. Mal
SER 4
Stages 1,2,3 + Med. Mal fx or Deltoid ligament rupture
Type of medial mal fx in SER 4
Transverse, but can also be oblique
SA 1
Transverse fx of lat mal at or below the level of the plafond, with rupture of the ATFL or calcaneofibular ligament
SA 2
SA 1 + Vertical Fx of the medial mal
PER 1
Deltoid ligament or fx of the med mal
PER 2
PER 1 + AITFL/Interosseous rupture
