Danis-Weber Classification Flashcards
Weber A
Fibula fracture below the level of the syndesmosis with often concomitant medial mal fracture, most ligaments intact
Weber B
Fibula fracture at the level of the syndesmosis, distal tibiofibular articulation has no widening, may have medial mal fx
What direction does Weber B fibula fx extend
superolaterally
Weber B ligament fractures
Deltoid ligament, syndesmosis may be torn along with a medial mal fx
Weber C
Fibular fracture proximal to the syndesmosis, syndesmosis disrupted with widening of the distal tibiofibular articulation, medial mal or deltoid ligament rupture present
Which type(s) need ORIF
Definitely Type C because syndesmosis is disrupted with widening, but Type B is often unstable requiring ORIF as well
When is Type B unstable
Depends on the status of the medial structures (med. mal and deltoid ligament) and syndesmosis.
What kind of fx is Type A usually
Transverse
What kind of fx is Type B usually
Spiral
