Give the origin, insertion, innervation, action, and test for:

Peroneus Longus

A

Origin:
Head + superior 2/3s of lateral surface of fibula + lateral tibial condyle

Insertion:
1st metatarsal + medial cuneiform (descends posterior to lateral malleolus, after phases under the foot)

Innervation:
Superficial Peroneal Nerve (L5,S1,2)

Action:

  • Evert the ankle
  • Plantar flexes ankle
  • Maintains foot arch

Test:
Evert ankle strongly against resistance. If acting normally, muscle tendon can be seen + palpated inferior to lateral malleolus.

Peroneus Brevis

A

Origin:
Inferior + lateral surface of fibular shaft

Insertion:
Dorsal surface of tuberosity on lateral side of 5th metatarsal

Innervation:
Superficial Peroneal nerve (L5,S1,2)

Action:

  • Everts the ankle
  • Plantar flexes the ankle

Test:
Evert ankle strongly against resistance. If acting normally, tendon can be seen and palpated posterior to lateral malleolus.
