Q

What is Giddins Features of a late modern society

A

Disembedding - face-face communication has broken down (due to technology) and traditional customs no longer govern our behaviour like they used to
Reflexivity - people now more individualistic and have to constantly monitor how to behave and what to do with our lives by weighing up the risks first
Instability leads to resurgence of religion - gives sense of moral purpose and stability
Unlike modern society - can choose which religion we follow ourselves

A

Reflexivity - wrongly suggests individuals are free to reshape their lives to reduce exposure to risks, poor are unable to afford to deal with environmental risks
