Last Socials Test 2 Flashcards
the human impact on Earth’s climate
anthropogenic climate change
the practice of applying controlled amounts of water to land to help grow crops
Irrigation
a change in the physical landscape caused by human or natural forces.
Terrain Deformation
A shortage of nutrition over an extended period of time. Can be due to a lack of enough food or an imbalanced diet.
Chronic Hunger
Refers to the removal of the nutrient rich layer of topsoil by either wind or water.
Erosion
the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas.
Urban Sprawl
Refers to the breakdown of soil as a result of leaching, Salinization, acidification, or pollution.
Chemical Deterioration
the process of making an area more urban.
Urbanization
A dam with a height of 15 meters or greater from lowest foundation to crest or a dam between 5 meters and 15 meters impounding more than 3 million cubic meters.
Large Scale Dams
an organometallic cation. It is the simplest organomercury compound. It is extremely toxic, and its derivatives are the major source of organic mercury for humans. It is a bio-accumulative environmental toxicant
Methyl Mercury
the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of clean water.
Water Security
rainfall made sufficiently acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environmental harm
Acid Rain
A change in global or regional climate patterns. Is caused by increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the fossil fuels.
Climate Change
The unusual increase in earths average surface temps over the past several centuries. Caused by human activities that make increased amounts of greenhouse gasses.
Global Warming
A natural process that occurs when gases in the atmosphere trap heat from the sun and warms the earth.
Greenhouse Effect
