Key Sx and Tx for Chlamydia?
Intermenstrual or postcoital bleeding. Mucopurulent endocervical discharge
Tx = 7 days doxycycline or single dose azithromycin (use this in pregnancy)
Key Sx and Tx for Gonorrhoea?
Thin watery yellow/green discharge. Easily induced cervical bleeding.
Tx = single dose Ig IM ceftriaxone
Key Sx and Tx for Trichomoniasis?
Offensive, frothy, yellow-green discharge. Srawberry cervix (punctate and papilliform). Vulval soreness/itchying
Tx = Metronidazole single dose or 7 days (use this one if breastfeeding/preggo)
Key Sx and Tx for Syphillis?
Painless chancre and inguinal lymphadenopathy. Painless skin rash inc. palms and soles.
Tx = Penicillin
Key Sx and Tx for PID?
Deep dyspareunia, post-coital bleeding, fever, cervical excitation.
Tx = Doxycycline, ceftriaxone and metronidazole or Ofloxacin and metronidazole
Key Sx and Tx for BV?
Offensive fishy smellying vaginal discharge. Thin white/grey discharge.
Tx = Metronidazole single dose or 7 days (use this one if breastfeeding/preggo)
Key Sx and Tx for candidasis?
Vulval itchiness, thick white vaginal discharge.
Tx = clotrimazole pessary (use this in preggo) or oral fluconazole
Medications used to treat TB?
Rifampicin (6 months), Isoniazid (6 months), Pyrazinamide (2 months), Ethambutol (2 months). Also pyridoxine (vit B6) prophyaxis to prevent peripheral neuropathy
Compilcations of TB meds?
Rifampicin = red/orange discolouration of secretion and interacts with contraceptive pill Isoniazid = peripheral neuropathy Pyrazinamide = hyperuricaemia Ethambutol = colour blindness and reduced visual acuity
