larynx muscles Flashcards
cricothyroid
origin: anterolateral aspect of arch of cricoid cartilage
insertion: oblique part: inferior horn of thyroid cartilage
straight part: inferior margin of thyroid cartilage
action: stretches and tenses vocal ligament
lateral crico-arytenoid
origin: Superior surface of arch of cricoid cartilage
insertion: Anterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
action: Adducts vocal folds
posterior cricoarytenoid
origin: Posterior surface of lamina of cricoid cartilage
insertion: Posterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
action: Abducts vocal folds
transverse arytenoid
origin: Lateral border of posterior surface of arytenoid cartilage
insertion: Lateral border of posterior surface of opposite arytenoid cartilage
action: Adduct arytenoid cartilages (adducting intercartilaginous portion of vocal folds, closing posterior rima glottidis)
oblique arytenoid
origin: Posterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
insertion: Posterior surface of apex of adjacent arytenoid cartilage; extends into ary-epiglottic fold
action: Adduct arytenoid cartilages (adducting intercartilaginous portion of vocal folds, closing posterior rima glottidis)
thyroarytenoid
origin: Lower half of posterior aspect of angle of thyroid laminae and cricothyroid ligament
insertion: Anterolateral surface of arytenoid cartilage
action: Relaxes vocal ligament
vocalis
origin: Lateral surface of vocal process of arytenoid cartilage
insertion: Ipsilateral vocal ligament
action: Relaxes posterior vocal ligament while maintaining tension of the anterior part
what is the innervation of the larynx muscles?
all innervated by inferior laryngeal nerve which is a branch of the recurrent laryngeal of vagus nerve.
except cricoarytenoid which is innervated by the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve
