Larynx Flashcards
Thyroid-Cricoid joint
Permits tilting of the thyroid-cricoid
-Allows to change the pitch of the sound produced
Functions of larynx
- Sound production
2. Closure of respiratory system
Arytenoid-Cricoid Joint
Permits rotation and sliding of aryenoid-cricoid
-Closes off the larynx
Median thyrohyoid ligament
Thickened part of the thyrohyoid membrane that links the hyoid to the larynx
Median cricothyroid ligament
Thickened part of the cricothyroid membrane that attaches the thyroid to the cricoid
Cricotracheal ligament
Links the cricoid to the first tracheal cartilage
Quadrangular membrane
Link the arytenoid the epiglottis
-Has overlying aryepiglottic folds
Thyroepiglottic ligament
Links the epiglottis to the thyroid cartilage
Rima glottidis
Opening between vocal cord ligaments
Conus elasticus
Vibrating lips that arise from the upper lip of the cricoid
-Edges= VOCAL LIGAMENTS
Vestibular folds
“False vocal cords”
Found on the edge of the vocal ligaments
Cricothyroid muscle
Tenses the vocal ligaments
=>increased pitch
Thyroarytenoid muscles
Relaxes the vocal ligaments
=>decreases the pitch
Posterior crico-aytenoid muscle
Abducts the vocal cords
Lateral crico-arytenoid muscle
Adducts the arytenoids
