typically beings within FIRST MONTH of life

  • worsened by lying on back, feeding or crying

A
  • noisy breathing/snoring
  • “Wet” inspiratory stridor MOST FREQUENT CAUSE OF STRIDOR in children
  • hoarseness or aphonia

A

Flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy

  • see collapse of laryngeal structures during inspiration (ARYTENOID cartilages)

How is Laryngomalacia treated?

A

Mainstay: REASSURANCE –> usually resolves by 18 months

  • surgery only recommended if severe
