Q

Factor effecting climate, hazards, Terroir

A

Languedoc and Roussillon
Warm mediterranean climate, Cooler inland.
Hot summer, mild winters and low rainfall which can lead to drought (main hazard).
The lack of rain prevent various disease like mildew and rot.
Summer flooding can be an issue.

Best vineyards are on well drained, less fertile foothill.
There are also vineyards on plain, more fertile for high volume wines.

Mistral flows through the Rhône Valley between the Alps and the Massif Central;
Tramontane is funneled between a gap in the Pyrénées and the Montagne Noir.
Both winds blows away humidity, drying the grapes and prevent disease, however they might shed the blossom and destroy young vines.

Vineyards can be planted lower and heavily steak them

The Mistral does NOT affect Provence as Provence has prominent hills that protect the region.

Soil are well drained stony and sandy
