A form of speech that adopts simplified grammar and limited vocabulary of a lingua franca used to communicate between speakers of different languages

A symbol that represents a word instead of a sound

A boundary that separates areas with different language uses
Creole
A language that is a mix of a colonizer’s language and the indigenous language of the dominated people
isolated language
A language that is unrelated to any other languages and is therefore not attached to any language family

The dialect of English associated upper-class Britons living in London and now considered standard in the UK
