Landing Gear- Wheels, Brakes and Unconventional Landing Systems Flashcards
What is the purpose of the wheels in the LGA?
Support the tire
Contains the brakes
What is the purpose of brake and how do the work?
Should slow down and stop and aircraft landing and taxiing
Operated by pedals using the servo-hydraulic system
What type of brakes do you know?
Drum
Disk
What are the main components of Disk brakes and how do the function?
Rotor Disc- Connected to the internal diameter of the wheel
Stator Disc- Connected to the internal diameter of the wheel
Full Brake assembly- Friction between the rotor and stator generates braking torque
What materials are used for the stators and rotors?
Previously: Steel/Ferrous material
Now: Beryllium (Expensive) or Combo of steel and composite carbon base materials
How Anti-Blocking System (ABS) work?
It modulates the braking system pressure. Wheel speed is monitored and compared. Predetermined deceleration patterns are then implemented if one wheel is decelerating too quickly. This keeps all the wheels spinning at the same speed
