What is the Glass Cockpit?
A cockpit with Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS). These are screens that display flight info in convenient forms
What is the Autopilot?
A computer device that can fly an aeroplane on its own. Pilot is there to monitor and check it
How does radar work?
The detection of radio signal pulses sent from a station (Magnetron) and reflecting off a target
What is GPS?
The global positioning system of 24 satellites used to tell where you are on the globe
How does GPS localisation work?
GPS satellites are equip with atomic clocks that when gien a start time of transmission and a radio signal is received, can give a calculated distance to where the signal came from. 4 satellites are used to make GPS accurate
What is the ILS?
Inertial Navigation system- A system of gyroscopes and accelererometers. It is used to estimate the position of the craft and is accurate currently to 0.3 nm/h
