Landing Gear Flashcards
Recall where the brake temperatures are displayed.
• A brake temperature monitor system (BTMS) displays each brake temperature on the EICAS status display (As installed)
Recall what a white ISLN light on the RESERVE BRAKES & STRG panel indicates. (767 Only)
(Located on the P-61 accessory panel)
Isolation (ISLN) light
• Illuminated (white) – the center number one electric primary hydraulic pump is isolated to provide hydraulic pressure to the reserve brakes and steering system.
On the 767 without an HDG, recall what effect a loss of electrical power will have on the normal or alternate gear extension.
• With a loss of both AC busses, flight beyond 30 minutes may result in a complete loss of electrical power and the inability to extend the gear and the flaps by either the normal or alternate gear extension methods.
Identify what a BRAKE SOURCE light indicates.
BRAKE SOURCE light
• Illuminated (amber) – both the normal and alternate brake system pressures are low.
Recall that __________________ is available in all brake systems.
antiskid protection
Recall __________________ are available in the normal brake system only.
auto brakes
Note: On the 757, the normal brake system may be re-pressurized by the reserve brake system allowing the auto brakes to be used.
Recall the different brake systems and their hydraulic sources.
Normal Brakes Alternate Brakes Reserve Brakes
757 Right Left Right
767 Right Center Center
Note: Accumulator braking is available via the accumulator if adequate pressure is available. The amber band represents accumulator pre-charge only. No brake pressure is available with the needle in the amber band.
Recall the ________________ light indicates the accumulator is the current source of hydraulic brake pressure.
BRAKE SOURCE
Recall the conditions required for RTO brake operation.
• RTO – automatically applies maximum brake pressure when the thrust levers are retarded to idle above 85 knots and the aircraft is on the ground.
Recall the various ways the auto brakes can be disarmed.
• A fault in the auto brake or antiskid system
• The speedbrake lever is moved from the full up position
(ie stowed) after the speedbrakes have deployed on the ground
• Either thrust lever is advanced after landing
• The OFF or DISARM position is selected on the AUTOBRAKES selector
• Pedal braking is applied
Recall the conditions required for the AUTOBRAKES to operate.
• The normal brake system must be operating. (The auto brake system also functions on reserve brakes on the 757 only)
• 1,2,3,4, or MAX AUTO – must be selected for the desired deceleration rate
Note: To maintain the desired deceleration rate, auto brake pressure is reduced as other controls, such as reverse thrust and spoilers, contribute to the total deceleration.
Explain the meaning of a GEAR light.
• Illuminated (amber) – the gear position disagrees with the lever position.
Explain the meaning of a DOORS light.
DOORS light
• Illuminated (amber) – a gear door is not closed.
Explain the meaning of a BRAKE TEMP light.
Brake Temperature (BRAKE TEMP) light • Illuminated (white) – a wheel brake temperature is in the high range (a value of 5 or above on the status page).
Recall the function of the LOCK OVRD switch.
Landing Gear Lever Lock Override (LOCK OVRD) switch
• Push - releases the landing gear lever lock.
