Landing Gear Flashcards

1
Q

Recall where the brake temperatures are displayed.

A

• A brake temperature monitor system (BTMS) displays each brake temperature on the EICAS status display (As installed)

Q

Recall what a white ISLN light on the RESERVE BRAKES & STRG panel indicates. (767 Only)
(Located on the P-61 accessory panel)

A

Isolation (ISLN) light
• Illuminated (white) – the center number one electric primary hydraulic pump is isolated to provide hydraulic pressure to the reserve brakes and steering system.

Q

On the 767 without an HDG, recall what effect a loss of electrical power will have on the normal or alternate gear extension.

A

• With a loss of both AC busses, flight beyond 30 minutes may result in a complete loss of electrical power and the inability to extend the gear and the flaps by either the normal or alternate gear extension methods.

Q

Recall __________________ are available in the normal brake system only.

A

auto brakes

Note: On the 757, the normal brake system may be re-pressurized by the reserve brake system allowing the auto brakes to be used.

9
Q

Recall the conditions required for RTO brake operation.

A

• RTO – automatically applies maximum brake pressure when the thrust levers are retarded to idle above 85 knots and the aircraft is on the ground.

10
Q

Recall the various ways the auto brakes can be disarmed.

A

• A fault in the auto brake or antiskid system
• The speedbrake lever is moved from the full up position
(ie stowed) after the speedbrakes have deployed on the ground
• Either thrust lever is advanced after landing
• The OFF or DISARM position is selected on the AUTOBRAKES selector
• Pedal braking is applied

11
Q

Recall the conditions required for the AUTOBRAKES to operate.

A

• The normal brake system must be operating. (The auto brake system also functions on reserve brakes on the 757 only)
• 1,2,3,4, or MAX AUTO – must be selected for the desired deceleration rate
Note: To maintain the desired deceleration rate, auto brake pressure is reduced as other controls, such as reverse thrust and spoilers, contribute to the total deceleration.

16
Q

Explain the meaning of an ANTISKID light on the overhead panel.

A

ANTISKID light

• Illuminated (amber) – a fault is detected in the antiskid system.

17
Q

Recall that AUTOBRAKES 1 through MAX AUTO provide a ________________ after main gear touchdown.

A

deceleration rate

18
Q

Recall the meaning of an AUTO BRAKES light.

A

AUTO BRAKES light

• Illuminated (amber) – the auto brakes are disarmed or inoperative.

19
Q

Recall the meaning of a TAIL SKID light.

A

TAIL SKID light

• Illuminated (amber) – the tailskid position disagrees with the landing gear lever position.

20
Q

Understand the function of the parking brake system.

A

Parking Brake (PARK BRAKE) handle
• Pull – sets the parking brake when both brake pedals are simultaneously depressed and illuminates the PARK BRAKE light.
• Release – simultaneously depress both brake pedals to release the brakes. This should also extinguish the PARK BRAKE light.

Parking Brake (PARK BRAKE) light
   • Illuminated (amber) – the parking brake is set.
21
Q

Know the ALTN GEAR (alternate gear) extend switch is used as directed by the QRH in the event that (757 – ______) or (767 – _______) hydraulic system pressure is lost.

A

Left, Center

22
Q

Recall that__________________________ provides a quicker deceleration rate than MAX AUTO braking.

A

full manual braking
