What is a PPR airfield?
A prior permission only airfield
You see RED FLASHES, what does this mean?
Advised not to land there
You see a CONTINUOUS red light, what does this mean?
Dont land there but permission may be granted eventually. Dont count on this as you may run out of height fast.
You see GREEN FLASHES, what does this mean?
Return to the airfield but you must still wait for permission to land
You see a CONTINUOUS GREEN LIGHT, what does this mean?
Only signal that means that you can land
You see WHITE FLASHES, what does this mean?
Can land eventually but only after green light
How is right hand circuits shown?
Yellow and red striped arrow should be shown in signal square.
How is the direction of landing shown.
The T in the signal square. Landing should be up the shaft of the T towards the cross head. (So up on the T here)
What does a white dumbell with black bars mean?
Land on paved surfaces only.
What does a yellow diagonal cross in a red square mean?
Airfield is unsafe and landing is prohibited.
How would an airfield show that runway 20 is closed?
Small white diagonal cross with 20 above it on the runway.
What does two plus signs joined together show? ++
++ shows that this part of the runway is being used for taking off an landing of gliders.
On arrival at a strange airfield, you call on the notified frequency but get no reply, what should you do?
Continue with circuit and make relevant calls on the radio.
What side should you land beside another aircraft?
The right
When you land at a small strip, what should your first actions be?
Push glider off runway
