What is a sand dune?
A
It’s a build-up of sand at the back of the beach above the high-tide level.

How are sand dunes formed?
A
When sand on a beach is dried out and blown inland by onshore winds, it gets trapped by a wall of vegetation and builds up to form sand hills or sand dunes.

What type of plant is put in the sand dunes?
A
Marram grass is planted to stop the sand from blowing further inland. It has deep roots that help to anchor the sand in place.
