Water lots of potential gravitational energy, vertical erosion and hydraulic power deepens the river. Corners weathered, loosened materials fell into the river channel making the sides to widen. Rocks in channel allows abrasion, making the channel wider. Weathering continues (it is repeated)

Two different types of rock, waterfall drops erode the softer rock, making a plunge pool. Plunge pool is very turbulent and it splashes. Back of the soft rocks erode, the top of the hard rock is overhanging. The overhanging hard rock collapse, causing abrasion
