Land cover mapping Flashcards
How is total accuracy calculated (error matrix)?
Number of correct pixels/ total number of pixels
What are the problems with total accuracy?
Summary value is an average
Does not reveal if error was evenly distributed between classed or if some classes were really bad and some were really good
One badly classified landcover type will have an effect on total accuracy
What is users accuracy?
From the perspective of the user, how accurate is the map
For a given class how many of the pixels on the map are actually what they say they are?
How is users accuracy calculated?
Number of pixel correctly identified in a given class/number of pixel claimed to be in that class
What is producers accuracy?
From the perspective of the maker of the classified map, how accurate is the map?
For a given class, in reference dat how many of the pixels on the map are clasdified correctly?
How is producers accuracy calculated?
Number of pixels correctly classified in a given class/ number of pixels in the reference data in that class
What is the difference between landcover and land use?
Landcover is the observed (bio)physical cover on the earth’s surface whereas landuse is the characterised by the arrangements, activities and inputs people undertake in a certain land cover type to produce, change or maintain it
What does the Copernicus landcover dataset provide?
Land cover map- land cover classes
Percentage cover per pixel (vegetation, bare ground, built up etc)
What is the spatial resolution of Copernicus landcover data set?
100m spatial resolution
What is the temporal resolution of Copernicus landcover data set?
Annual (2015-2019)
What does Global Land30 provide?
The first global land cover map using Landsat TM imagery
With 10 land covers
For 2000, 2010 and 2020
What is the spatial resolution of Global Land30?
30m spatial resolution
What is a ‘mixed’ pixel?
Pixels that contain more than one land cover type
