Lamination Process Flashcards
1
Q
What is it
A
Process of binding strips of material in layers
In order to create strong structures thick materials are used ie bridge supports and roofing breams
Thinner materials also used and useful if complex curves or tight radii are needed
2
Q
What does it involve
A
Layering material with adhesive and holding it in the chosen position using a former or jig and pressure through clamps or by using a vacuum
3
Q
Method of lamination step by step
A
- take material strips and apply adhesive making sure to cover entire surface
- repeat previous step to rest of material and place strips on top of each other
- more layers the less flexible product is
- place material you have chosen to protect mould in the mould
- place laminated material inside mould
- clamp mould together ensuring protective and laminated material are securely in place
- wait for adhesive to dry
- remove laminated material from mould and finish (ie sand)
4
Q
Equipment needed for lamination
A
Mould Material (strips) Adhesive (glue) Brush / applicator for adhesive Protective material for mould Clamps, jigs, vacuum etc
5
Q
What items are made using lamination
A
Tables
Chairs
Furniture with unusual shapes
