Objective of Lacrosse?
get points by throwing the ball into the opponent’s goal. the team with the most goals wins the game.
How many total players does each team have on the field?
10 players per team.
They fall into 4 categories:
Goalie
Attackers
Defenders
Midfielders
what are you trying to do on OFFENSE?
1) team advances the ball toward the opponent’s goal by running and cradling it or passing it to a teammate. 2) offense attempts to score on opponent’s goal
What are you trying to do when you are on offense and have the ball on the attacking side?
You are trying to score by:
- moving around and taking a shot
- moving around so you get a pass then can shoot
- moving with the ball and passing the ball to a teammate so they can shoot
What is the ATTACKERS role?
- Score goals
- Pass and set up teammates so they can score
- Take ball from defender
- Race for balls going out of bounds so you are the closest to the ball when it goes out of bounds. This gives the ball to your team.
What is the circle around the goals called?
the CREASE
Yes or No, can an attacker step inside the crease?
No, only the goalies and defenders can step inside the crease.
How many players must stay on the “attacking side” of the field?
At least three
what is the purpose of the midfield line?
Divides the field into equal halves. The proper number of players on each team must remain on each half of the field or the team is called for OFFSIDES.
what are you trying to do on DEFENSE?
attempts to stop the other team from scoring by: 1) forcing bad shots 2) deflecting or intercepting passes 3) taking the ball from the opponent
what are you trying to do if the opponent has the ball in your defensive area (by your goal)?
You are trying to stop the other team from scoring and trying to get the ball so you can either run it upfield or pass it to the attackers who are past the midfield line.
What are the four types of positions on a lacrosse team?
- Attacker
- Defender
- Midfielder
- Goalie
what do you need to know about the “sidelines” and “endlines”
When a ball or player goes out of bounds, the opposing team takes possesion of the ball.
After a missed shot, teh player closest to the spot where the ball went out of bounds has possession.
What is “clearing” the ball?
throwing the ball from the defensive side of the field across the midfield line.
