urea synthesis (severe liver disease) and dilutional states (SIADH)

product of muscle metabolism

acid-base disorders (DKA, sepsis, crush injury, etc.)

cardiac dysrhythmia

cardiac dysrhythmias, neuromuscular irritability, patients taking electrolyte-altering medications

renal insufficiency, massive cell death
What is a BNP useful for?
distinguish primary pulmonary causes of dyspnea from cardiac issues
What is a d-dimer test used for?
rule-out DVT or PE, breakdown of fibrin clot
What does a UA include?
