How to test for high cortisol?
Hyperactivity of hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis
as shown by failure to suppress cortisol levels in dexamethasone suppression
test.

AD-DAVID
A- Admission team and staff name
D - Diagnosis (i.e. NYD, not yet diagnosed)
D - Diet (i.e. NPO, possible surgery)
A - activities (i.e. bed rest; passes PRN)
V - vital frequency (routine = 1x12 hours; hourly in ICU)
I - IV fluids; IV antibiotics; In/out (catheter, urine output, weight)
I - Investigations
D - Drugs (or basically the P in SOAP)
• i.e.
○ D/C (discontinue) Imodium
○ Abdominal X-ray
○ Consult surgeon
○ CBC, lites, creatinine every 12 hours
○ Blood culture (temp over 38oC)
○ Urine culture (temp over 38oC)
○ Stool culture
D - DVT prophylaxis
