Why was there Labour divisions?
In ideologys and personalities the party was becoming increasingly divided e.g Bevan and Gaitskell
Who was Bevan and why did he resign?
Architect of NHS and Hero of Labour Left. Resigned in 1951 to protest against prescription charges - gained support from left and trade unions
Who was Gaitskell?
Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1950 to 1951 - he introduced the prescription charges - right of party and became leader in 1955
Why did the CND cause further divisions?
Left wingers wanted labour to be more socialist - divisions over Britains nuclear weapons - many Labour left wingers joined the CND (campaign for nuclear disarmament) - turned some voted away from labour all together

- Gaitskell put idea of abolishing it
- essentially nationalisation
- faced opposition from left wingers and trade unions
- Gaitskell backed down without putting a vote
