What were the traditional class loyalties?
1951 Britain was a deferential society - engrained respect for authority - working class voted labour and middle class voted conservative
Change in attitudes
There was a gradual resitction of social breakdowns and a loss of deference
Suez crisis
Highlighted to the public that the gov were lying to them - led to an increase of people defying gov
Critics of the establishment
- Believed that Britain was being held back by the ruling elite - they covered up their mistakes
- The Conservative gov 51-64 seemed to be dominated by the establishment
What was the satire boom?
Output of satirical writers, journalists and performers - it was comical and sought to ridicule the establishment and gov through writings and plays
What were literacy figures?
Group of writers who rebelled against traditional literature in order to attack the behaviour of the upper middle classes through sarcastic and bleek writings aswell as through performances
