QUID - quantitative ingredient decleration the quantities of any ingredients emphasized on the label shown
definition of use by dates
this is used on foods such as milk, cheese, meat and ready made pizza. it shows the day/ month. after this date, the food is not safe to eat
definition of best before
this is used on foods such as canned beans, dried fruit, breakfast and frozen peas. shows the month/ year. after this date the food is probably still safe to eat but may not look or taste good
what does the red mean in the traffic lights system
the food is high in one of the nutrients that we should be cutting down on. these foods should be used as treats and eaten in smaller amounts fat- more than 20g/ 100 saturated fat - more than 5g/100 sugar- more than 15g/100 salt- more than 1.5g/100
what does amber mean in the traffic light system
this is food that is neither high or low in the nutrient. there fore is a suitable choice most of the time fat-between 3-20g/100 saturated fat between 1.5-5g/100 sugar - between 5-15g/100 salt- between 0.3-1.5g/ 100
what does green mean in the traffic light system
the food is low in the nutrient, the more green lights on the label, the healthier the food choice. fat 3g or below/100 saturated fat-1.5g or below/100 sugar- 5g or below/ 100 salt- 0.3g or below/100
