- crawl and possibly walk
- pick things up
- say a few words and understand a lot
- drink from a cup, put things in their mouths, join in family meal time
- have some teeth
- enjoy company and attention
- explore and investigate
- develop own personality and temperament
- enjoy looking at books
- develop understanding, know when they are being praised or told off
what is intellectual development
is the development of parts of the brain concerned with reasoning, knowing and understanding.
what do you have to take into consideration when picking a toy for a child
- is it sturdy, and will it last
- always check the paint and dye is non-toxic
- that the materials are not flammable
- check there is no sharp edges
- that folding mechanisms are child proof and clockworks and mechanics are enclosed
- wheeled toys eg scooter are stable and easy to steer
- any eyes or arms and legs should be secure to the dolls or toys body
- electric motors should not exceed 24 volts
- look for toys recommended by the British standards institution
why is it important to talk to your baby
to enhance there communication skills and being able to know how they feel
how should parents actively encourage reading
- fostering an interest in books and pictures
- read to the child everyday, follow the printed words to help them learn to read left to right
- play colour and shape matching games
- talk to a child slowly and in simple sentences
what is the definition of social development
is how a child learns to build relationships with other people or get on with other people.
how can parents encourage ability to meet, mix and communicate with others
meet up with friends with nay friends that have children, after school clubs, play grounds
how can parents make sure their child is clean and acceptable to others
make sure they wash their hands and flush the toilet,
have bath time, starting at home
