Lab Three Flashcards
Define Nervous System Integration
The generation of a motor output based on the sum of sensory inputs.
What is a simple reflex arc?
A way of integration in the nervous system involving relatively few sensory and motor neurons.
Where is the neuronal circuitry required for the patellar reflex confined to?
The spinal cord, the brain is not required to perform this reflex.
As more neurons and synapses are involved, there is longer delay between the ___ and the ___.
The stimulus and the response.
What can learning be used for?
To modify motor outputs to respond appropriately to new environmental stimuli.
Where does learning usually take place?
In the brain.
What allows for more complex patterns of integration?
The presence of more interneurons and neuronal connections.
What is reaction time?
The time from the start of a signal to the response.
What factors affect reaction time?
Signal complexity, duration, and strength. The difference in afferent conduction time, how fast the sensory system can change, and the sensitivity of the sensory system are all factors.
True or False: Reactions are voluntary responses that can be modified through learning.
True.
What is visual-motor learning?
Increasing the accuracy, speed, and coordination of tasks involving hand-eye coordination through repetition of the tasks.
What is a prism?
A commonly wedge-shaped piece of glass or other similar translucent material that bends the pathway of light.
What is Index of Refraction?
The amount of light that is bent due to the material it passes through.
