Lab Test #1 Flashcards
Which ventricle is thicker?
Left
Explain how the rate of osmosis is affected by concentration of solute
The greater the difference in concentration the greater the osmotic effect
Describe tests for the presence of sugar and starch
Reagents:
Starch - iodine (change in color signals positive)
Sugar - Benedict solution + heat (change in color signals positive)
Distinguish between electrolytes and non-electrolytes
Acids, salts, bases (starch/sugar NOT electrolytes)
Electrolytes dissolve and dissociate so that it can conduct electricity
Isotonic solutions & their ratio
Body fluid = .9% NaCl = 5% glucose
Ratio of .9% NaCl to 5% glucose is 1:6
Hypertrophy vs hyperplasia
Hypertrophy - increase in size; hyperplasia - increase in number
Fibrous CT is the same as what?
Fibrous = dense regular CT
Epithelial - columnar
Columnar found in circular pattern
Epithelial - pseudo-stratified ciliated columnar
Will have cilia and goblet cells
If you see bone cells - what sort of tissue are you looking at?
Connective tissue
