Examination of mouth, teeth, & gums
What is malocclusion?
abnormally aligned teeth when jaw is closed
What should you examine teeth for?
Lining of teeth, tartar, discoloration(yellowing), fractures, missing teeth
What should gums be examined for?
redness, swelling, discoloration & masses
What should the mouth be examined for?
Tongue& Roof: swelling, discoloration, ulceration, masses
What does the integumentary system & general appearance include?
Hair, skin (including footpads & nails) & SQ tissues
What should hair coats be checked for?
Thinning or alopecia (hair loss), broken vs missing hairs
What should skin be checked for?
Excoriation, crusts, dandruff
*Note size of lesions, locations & objective qualities
What should footpads & nails be examined for?
Footpad: Tears, hyperkeratosis,
Nails: length, breaks/cracks
Nail beds: debris, redness, & inflammation
