Q

spermatogenesis steps

A
  1. spermatogonium (stem cells) goes through mitosis (2n)
  2. division of spermatogonium makes two identical primary spermatocytes (2n)
  3. one primary spermatocyte undergoes meiosis and makes two diverse secondary spermatocytes (1n)
  4. the two secondary spermatocytes undergo meiosis and make four diverse spermatids (1n)

Q

Leydig cell function

A

produce testosterone

7
Q

Sertoli cells function

A

promote spermatogenesis

produce inhibin hormone to inhibit FSH release from pituitary, reducing testosterone secretion

GnRH (hypothalamus) -> follicle-stimulating hormone (pituitary) -> inhibins (Sertoli cells)
