  • Found only in cardiac ventricles
  • released in response to stretch => ^ volume in ventricle
  • Correlated w/ LV end-diastolic pressure, NYHA classification, objective HF diagnosis in pts ≥55yo
  • Higher in women, elderly
  • Elevated in renal insufficiency

More used as a pertinent negative
