- Found only in cardiac ventricles
- released in response to stretch => ^ volume in ventricle
- Correlated w/ LV end-diastolic pressure, NYHA classification, objective HF diagnosis in pts ≥55yo
- Higher in women, elderly
- Elevated in renal insufficiency
More used as a pertinent negative
