Lab #7 Reproductive system Flashcards
What is mitosis
When a somatic cell replicates and produces another 2n cell
What is meiosis
when sex cells replicate and produce a 1n cell
During prophase 1 what is happening to the chromosomes centrioles spindle fibers
The chromosomes have started to condense but are still scattered around the cell centrioles are migrating to opposite poles and the spindle fibers begin to form
During metaphase 1 what is happening to the chromosomes spindle fibers
tetrads have aligned along the metaphase plate spindle fibers are formed and attached to centromeres
During anaphase 1 what is happening to the chromosomes spindle fibers
full chromosomes separate and move to opposite ends of the cell when they reach the opposite pole anaphase is complete
What is the epididymis and what happens inside of it
the thing that sits on top of the testis and is where sperm mature and is stored
What is the Ductus deferens
Also known as the vas deferens and carries the sperm from the testes to the urethra
What is another name for the uterine tube
The fallopian tube
Where is the Primordial OF Primary OF Secondary OF Tertiary OF corpus luteum corpus albicans
How could you identify a primary ovarian follicle
A single layer of cuboidal cells surround the ovarian follicle
How could you identify a secondary ovarian follicle
Stratified layer of cuboidal cells surrounds the ovarian follicle
How could you identify a tertiary follicle
There is an antrum (the big fluid filled space)
what is the tunica albuginea
Thick white capsule that covers the outside of the testis
What do the interstitial endocrine cells do in the testies
Produce testosterone
What are the 4 stages of spermatogenesis
Spermatogonia
Primary spermatocyte
Secondary spermatocyte
Spermatids
Do spermatogonia divide by mitosis or meiosis
Mitosis
Which cell during spermatogenesis undergoes meiosis
Primary spermatocyte
Label the Spermatogonia Primary spermatocyte secondary spermatocyte spermatids
What do sustenocytes do and where are they located
they provide nourishment for the spermatids and attach to the basement membrane of the seminiferous tubules
What is a pronucleus
The nucleus of the male or female reproductive cell
What is a zygote
A single diploid cell created from the two male and female sex cells
What is the difference between the maturation of the female and male sex cells
Spermatogenesis creates 4 viable sperm whereas oogenesis creates only one viable ovum and 2 or 3 polar bodies
