Lab 6 Flashcards
Turner Syndrome
Missing second X chromosome. Short stature, ovarian insufficiency, hearth defects.
Down Syndrome
3 #21 chromosomes. Heart defects, Alzheimers, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues
Klinefelter Syndrome
2 X chromosomes in men. Interferes with testosterone production, small testes
Are the dominant phenotypic characteristics always the most common in a population?
No
Why are sex linked recessive traits more common in males
To have a sex-linked recessive female you would need a carrier mother and recessive father
Polygenic Inheritance Calculations
Start with the given minimum and add given number for each dominant allele in the genotype
Percentage Recombination Formula
% recombination = ((total# recombinants)/(total # offspring)) x 100%
If traits are inherited in Mendelian Fashion, are the dominant phenotypes most common in a population
No
