Lab 5 Veins Flashcards
Human/Fetal Pig Gross Anatomy
In which vessels do the RBCs travel in single file?
capillaries
What vessels are included in microcirculation
capillaries, venules, arterioles, metarterioles
How can the different types of vessels in microcirculation be distinguished when looking at a live specimen?
blood flow direction and diameter/size
In which vessel does blood flow the slowest and why?
Blood flows slowest in the capillaries. The capillaries have a larger total area where maximum nutrient and gas exchange occur.
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: epinephrine
Effect: vasoconstriction, blood pressure and blood flow regulation during stress (systemic)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: norepinephrine
Effect: vasoconstriction redirect blood flow to other areas under stress (systemic)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: acetylcholine
Effect: no effect because para sympathetic doesn’t branch to skin “rest and digest” (local)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: histamine
Effect: vasodilation allow more blood flow to help with inflammatory response (local)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: cold water
Effect: vasoconstriction, reduces blood flow, blood may be redirected to other vital organs (local)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: hot water
Effect: vasodilation to regulate body temp, nutrient delivery, and muscle relaxation (local)
Blood vessel diameter local regulator: acid
Effect: vasodilation increasing blood flow to tissues (local)
What local factors are responsible for increasing the blood flow through skeletal muscles during exercise?
increased temperature, lactic acid, oxygen, carbon dioxide (local)
