Lab #4 Flashcards
Tables and figure allow
To organize data and interpret results
Independent variable is on the ___ axis and dependent variable is on the ____ axis
X;y
Line graphs
Change in the quantity of the chosen variable and emphasize rise/fall of the values over their range
Bar graphs
Represent separate or discontinuous groups (nonnumerical)
Histograms
Values of the x-axis are numerical but grouped together
Primary research articles
Original reports of scientific findings and ideas
Secondary sources
General specific articles based on analysis, evaluation, and reorganization of evidence from primary sources
Tertiary sources
Information from primary or secondary sources that is summarized and greatly condensed
Title
Specify materials, methods, and purpose of the study
Abstract
Brief background of the topic, statement in objectives, short description of methodology, description of major findings, and relating findings to a broader field
Introduction
Background, what makes the subject important, approach & purpose of the study (hypothesis), brief outline of experimental design
Methods
How the experiments were done; describe organisms, procedures, materials, equipment, protocols, and controls
Results
Observations, data, and findings of the study. Use statistics; highlight trends and patterns
Discussion
Explains and interpret results, give opinions, draw conclusions, relate to other work, and what should be done next
