Lab Flashcards
Accuracy
How closely the test results correspond to the “gold standard.”
Precision
How reproducible the results are with repeat testing of the same specimen.
Sensitivity
Used to RULE OUT disease. It is sensitive enough for me to say you don’t have it. % of people without disease, with negative results.
Specificity
Used to RULE IN. Specific enough I can say you for sure have it.
Likelihood Ratio
How likely the test is to be useful.
LR >1
Indicates test result is associated with disease
LR <1
Indicates test result is associated with ABSENCE of the disease.
Predictive Value
Estimation of probability of presence or absence of disease.
Positive PV
% of persons with positive terse result who have the disease
Negative PV
% of person with negative test who do not have the disease.
Pre-test probability
Prevalence of a disease in a given population
Post test probability
proportion of patients testing positive who truly have the disease (Positive PV)
