Q

When just trying to get them to stand up:
* Put gait belt on them “I use this so I don’t get in trouble” - feed the teeth
* In the neuro setting its extremely important to ask if they have any tubes in their stomach before adding the gait belt
* Don’t leave patient unattended, thats a saftey violation
* Scoot bottom forward to edge of table (if they can’t do this you can have them lean one way and you pull form the other to scoot them forward at that contralateral hip to where they’re leaning)
* Put both your feet inbetween their feet and knees outside their knees
* count Up to 3 (1-2-3) while rocking each time to gain momentum
* “Nose over toes and lean forward and stand up”
* NOTE: they ended up very much on their heels so its important to let your elbows bend as they stand up

Sitting back down:
* Typically they’ve scooted forward some, so have them back up till the backs of their legs make contact w/ the table.
* Then have them reach backwards to find the table and sit down.

Q

Wheel chair Stand and pivot
* Take leg rests off or swing them to where they’re latearl to the chair (they have to swing out and around, cannot be in the front
* lock the chair
* Do not need to worry about the arms of the wheelchair for this one
* The chair should be at a 90 degree angle to the table/person
* have your legs on inside and knees outside
* count Up to 3 (1-2-3) while rocking each time to gain momentum
* Nose over toes and stand up
* Have them pivot 90 degrees to the chair and reach back to find the arm rests and sit down

Q

Sit Pivot:
* Lock the chair
* Take the arm rest closer to the chair off
* Angle the chair toward them (makes about a 60 degree angle w/ the table
* Turn your feet the opposite way of the chair (chair is on the L the feet turn toward the right
* Bottom moves toward the chair (feet turned to the R bottom scoots toward the chair the L)
* You’re directly inforont of the pt
* Have pt scoot to front of table
* Grab the pt, hands under their arm
* Rock the pt 1-2-3
* Lean forward and turn bottom toward chair (feet should naturally already be in the correct spot)
* patient can also reach across to the arm on the wheel chair sitll on (should be the further arm and not the closer one)
* I think it was easier to stay sitting the entire time
* w/ neuro patients you often get square chairs. Wedge the corner between legs - this allow you to get closer to pt
* NOTE: You can have both your legs around 1 of patients legs or both of patients legs to stabilize them if they don’t work
