Lab 1 Test (Hard Concepts) Flashcards
Fibroblasts
Produce fibers in the matrix of connective tissue
Lamina
Basal layer of mucus membranes
3 types of Connective Tissue
Tendons, Ligaments, and Aponeurosis
Chondrocyte
Produces cartilage in the Hyaline Cartilage
Hematopoiesis
Blood cell formation, occurs in bone marrow
Haversian (Central) Canal
Central canal where nerves and blood/lymphatic vessels navigate through bone tissue.
Lamella
The rings that make up bone tissue (Plural = Lamellae)
Three names of Blood gunk
Thrombocytes (Platelets), Erythrocytes (RBCs), and Leukocytes (WBCs).
Neuroglial
“Nerve” “Glue”, supporting cells that ensure proper function of neuron
Cell organelle responsible for detoxification of hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and other free radicals (O2-)
Peroxisome
Cell organelle responsible for drug detoxification
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Ribosomes (R)
Uses (R)NA to produce proteins
Melanocytes
The cell responsible for producing melanin
Melanin’s main function
To prevent harmful sun radiation from reaching cells actively going through mitosis and any damage from replicating.
Synovial Membrane
Membrane composed entirely of connective tissue, no epithelial. Membranes line the cavities surrounding joints, containing a fluid (Synovial fluid) which cushions movement and friction
