L8-Shoulder region 1 Flashcards
bones of the shoulder consists of?
clavicle and scapula that form pectoral girdle and the proximal end of the humerus
superficial muscles of the shoulder?
trapezius and deltoid
attachment related to trapezius?
trapezius attaches the clavicle and scapula to the trunk
attachment related to deltoid?
deltoid attaches the scapula and clavicle to the humerus
what are 3 muscles that attaches the scapula to the vertebral column
levator scapulae
rhomboid major
rhomboid minor
mention the origin insertion nerve supply and action of pectoralis major muscle
originates from the front of the trunk and insertion is the bicipital groove of humerus. supplied by the medial and lateral pectoral nerves. it is responsible for the flexion abduction and medial rotation of the shoulder
mention the origin insertion nerve supply and action of pectoralis minor muscle
originates from the front of the trunk and insertion is coracoid process. it is supplied by the medial pectoral nerve. it is responsible for the protraction of the scapula and depression of the shoulders
mention origin nerve supply and action of subclivius muscle
originates from the front of the trunk and it is supplied by the nerve to subclivius. it is responsible for steadying of the clavicle and fixing it to the first rib
mention the origin insertion nerve supply and action of deltoid muscle
originates from the spine of scapula acromion and clavicle and insertion is deltoid tuberosity. it is supplied by the axillary nerve. anterior fibres: flexion and medial rotation of the humerus
middle fibres: abduction
posterior fibres: extension and lateral rotation
mention the origin insertion nerve supply and action of trapezius muscle
originates form the cervical and upper thoracic spines and insertion is spine of scapula acromion and clavicle. it is supplied by the spinal accessory nerve
upper fibers: elevation of the shoulder
lower fibres: depression of the scapula
middle fibres:retracts the shoulder
mention the origin insertion nerve supply and action of latissmus dorsi muscle
originates from the lower part og the back and insertion is biciptal groove. it is supplied by the nerve to latissmus dorsi. it is responsible for extension adduction and medial rotation of the arm also involved in climbing and swimming
mention the origin insertion and nerve supply of levator scapulae rhomboid minor and rhomboid major
originates from the middle of the upper part of the back and insertion is the back of medial boarder of scapula it is supplied by dorsal scapular nerve it retracts the scapula rotates the scapula so that glenoid cavity faces downwards
cause of flattening shoulder?
paralysis of deltoid muscle due to injury of the axillary
outcome of paralysis of trapezius muscle
leads to a drop of the shoulder with rotation of the angle of the scapula towards the midline restricting abduction of the arm
what is the main cause of paralysis if the trapezius muscle?
injury to spinal accessory muscle because its superficial location in the posterior triangle of the neck makes it very vulnerable to injury
