Used for finding food, locate mate, warning.
Eg singing, whimpering, purring, howling.
Roaring in lions.
Visual?
Body language, facial expression,
eg, bee waggle dance, primates yawning- threat
Chemical?
eg urine, faeces, scent glands.
Pheramone- animals can detect this through smells.
Sent marking cat, dog and lemurs
What is chemical gustatory?
Communication through TASTE! 👅
What is chemical Olfactory?
Communication through SMELL! 👃
What do animals use to smell things through their mouth? And who uses it?
Jacobson’s organ. Curl of the lip.
Eg, horses, giraffes, goats, buffalo, sheep, deer.
Tactile- touch?
Allo-grooming provides comfort.
Creation of social bonds.
Mostly positive, or affiliative. Could be aggressive?
Primates grooming, Hairy mole rat- headbutting
