Whats a complex social hierarchy?
Every member of the group is ranked relative to every other member.

What does the position in hierarchy depend on?
Size/weight

Dominance?
Where an animal wins over another for a resource.
Sub-ordinance/submission?
Where an animal loses to another animal for a resource.
Agonistic behaviour?
Used during conflict in same species.
Indicates whether the animal will fight or retreat.
Prevents fights.
Danger of labelling?
Inappropriate training techniques.
Aggression routed from fear/threat
Responding in the wrong way can worse a situation.
Benefits of affiliative behaviours?
share resources
protect genes
learn how to parent themselves
safety from predators
reduce agonistic behaviours
