L4 - Diagnosing AD before dementia Flashcards
0
Q
New research criteria for AD diagnosis
A
- episodic memory impairment + 1 or more of the following:
- medial temporal lobe atrophy (MRI)
- abnormal CSG biomarkers (abeta low, tau high, p-tau high)
- abnormal glucose metabolism (FDG PET) or evidence of amyloid (PIB PET)
- autosomal dominant mutation in immediate family
1
Q
Worldwide dementia prevalence in 2010
A
35.6 mil; 7.7 mil new cases each year
2
Q
A-beta & Tau & pTau in CSF as diagnostic biomarkers:
A
- Combination of a-beta 42 & tau (but not pTau) in CSF has 93.5% sensitivity and 82.7% specificity
3
Q
[18F]FDG in AD
A
- FDG - fluordeoxyglucose
- scans show parieto-temporal and posterior cingulate glucose hypometabolism in AD
