Test of infant motor performance
purpose: motor assessment for infants at high risk
age range: 34 weeks post-conception to 4 months postnatal
areas tested: functional motor, postural & selective control of movement
13-18 months fine motor
scribbles
drinks from cup without lid
feeds self with fingers
tries to use spoon
13-18 months gross motor
-begins to walk without assist
-in/out of squat
-creep up/down steps
-transition floor to stand with independence
-walks without holding onto person or anything for support
-climbs on/off furniture independently
13-18 months cognitive
-uses toys and items as intended (phone, cup, etc)
-stacks 2 blocks or small objects
-copies caregiver chores
-plays with toys simply (pushes toy car)
13-18 months communication/language
-says 1-2 words such as ba for ball
-looks to familiar object when named
-follows simple directions when hand held out
-points to ask for help or for something
->3 words
-follows 1 step directions without gesture
13-18 months social emotional
-copies other children during play
-shows object of interest
-claps in excitement
-hugs doll/toy
-shows affection
-moves away from caregiver, still looks for them
-points to show object of interest
-puts hands out to be washed

Bayley Scales of Infant Development
Purpose: infant screening, identify neuromotor or cognitive/behavioral concerns
age range: 16 days-42 months
Areas tested: cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional, adaptive behavior
stop scoring when child cannot perform 3 consecutive movement
Adaptive behavior
listening and understanding, talking, caring for self, relating to others, playing
Cognitive
visual preference, attention, memory, sensorimotor, exploration, and manipulation, concept formation
Language
receptive and expressive language subtests
Motor
fine motor and gross motor subtests
