L3 - L4 Flashcards

1
Q

op def

A

derived via critical thinking, lit synthesis + common sense

(L2)
(Attrib of concepts become indicators and help to measure concepts)
(specifies how variables are measured with concrete meanings of them)

Q

concept of measurement

A

values assigned in measuring process can be manipulated according to certion mathematical rules
(process of assigning numb/labels to observations according to certain rules)(representing quantities)

Q

scale

A

any series of items that are arranged progressively according to value and can be placed based on quantification (series of categories)
(make scale determinging the level of measurement desirable)

Q

categorical variables

A

classify info into categories (ie gender, nom/ordinal)

nom- represent dif/disimilar attrib (exhaust possibility of the other) (Categorical)
ordinal- commonly to rate various characterisitcs (categorical)
interval- describe a variable with attrib that are rank ordered with distances (absolute dif, +/-, continuous)
ratio- with attrib that have quality of num (cont; ie yrs, height, distance)

Q

semantic differential

A

-multi item
-composite
-indicate opinions toward single statement with dif parts of adjectives (framed as polar opposites)

-more sensitive to att changes than dichotomous response catergories (y/n)
-ie very certain -> uncertain
-index is more than single item measures
