L3: Experimental Methods 1 Flashcards
1
Q
What is a hypothesis?
A
A prediction of what you will see in a piece of research
2
Q
What is a null hypothesis
A
The starting point for every study. Says there is nothing going on, there is no difference between the groups, or no relationship between the measures
3
Q
What is a nuisance variable?
A
An extraneous variable (an additional factor that affects the dependent variable)
4
Q
How do you deal with nuisance variables?
A
- try to turn it into a control variable/ constant variable. Always test in the same place, same conditions etc
- of the nuisance variables varies across conditions, it becomes a confounding variable
5
Q
You can get more than one dependent variable
A
Just so you know
