A

What is a null hypothesis

A

The starting point for every study. Says there is nothing going on, there is no difference between the groups, or no relationship between the measures

What is a nuisance variable?

A

An extraneous variable (an additional factor that affects the dependent variable)

How do you deal with nuisance variables?

A
  • try to turn it into a control variable/ constant variable. Always test in the same place, same conditions etc
  • of the nuisance variables varies across conditions, it becomes a confounding variable
