L2- Water Cycle Changes Flashcards
What is the lithosphere?
The outer layers of the Earths surface (the crust and the upper mantle).
Where does the water flow the fastest?
Surface run off at surface level.
What is one effect physical of climate change on the water cycle?
Higher temperatures can cause more evaporation and therefore there is more rainfall which runs off as surface run off so less is stored.
What is one human consequence of climate change on the water cycle?
Water stressed areas are more stressed and therefore insufficient supply for the demand of the groundwater.
What is seasonality?
Predicting the weather for a particular season.
What happens if the mountain ice stores melt?
Higher river flow in spring but then not enough ice for the river flow in summer.
What are the 3 ways that water can flow into rivers?
Fastest is surface runoff, through the soil and slowest is groundwater flow.
What is happening when there is the most water in the river?
There could be: the highest precipitation, high surface run off or when it is near human settlement.
What is the difference between economic and physical scarcity?
Physical scarcity is not enough of water for the ecosystem to function efficiently something and economic scarcity is insufficient resources for human needs.
Name 2 processes occuring in the atmosphere.
Evaporation and precipitation.
What is the biosphere?
All the living organisms.
