L2. Overview of Cardiac Function Flashcards
1
Q
Diastole
A
Relaxation
2
Q
Systole
A
Contraction
3
Q
Atrial Systole
A
- Atrium Depolarization from SA node impulses
- Atria squeezes more blood into ventricles
4
Q
Isovolumic Ventricular Contraction ( IVC)
A
- All valves are closed
- Volume in ventricles remains unchanged
- Myocardium is contracting and pressure is rising sharply.
- Ventricular contraction starts at the apex of the heart
- Ventricular Pressure increases as AV node send impulses to induce contraction
- P ( ventricle) exceeds P (aorta)
- Semilunar valves open to eject blood from the heart
5
Q
Ventricular Ejection
A
- Myocardium continues to contract
- Contraction reaches max effect then stops, but blood is still ejecting,
6
Q
Isovolumic Ventricular Relaxation
A
- All valves are closed
- Myocardium is relaxing
- P ( ventricle ) is decreasing
7
Q
Ventricular filling
A
- P (ventricular) falls below the atrial pressure
- AV valves open
8
Q
Pacemaker cells
A
- SA node (Posterior wall of right Atrium) - highest degree of automaticity
- AV node
- Cause ventricular contraction
- No plateau phase
- 3 phases (0,3,4)
- Slow rate of depolarization
9
Q
Non-Pacemaker cells
A
- Rapid Rate of Depolarization
- Plateau phase (2)
- 5 phases ( 0-4)
