L2 Final Flashcards

1
Q

Adult onset non-progressive dysarthria and AOS

  1. etiologies
  2. typical course
  3. type/characteristics of speech problems
A
  1. stroke, TBI
  2. sudden onset, neurologic recovery, stabilization
3, vary greatly depending on site of lesiona and extent of neurological damage

Q

Acute CNS injuries:

  1. what kind of events are they
  2. what are the effects (4)
  3. what is the last effect?
A
  1. ischemic
  2. a. edema
    b. decreased in cerebral blood flow
    c. abnormal release of neurotransmitters for a few weeks
    d. diaschisis
  3. diaschisis: If A & B are connected. Damage in A=problems with function in B (think of referred pain)

Q

Causes of acute CNS dysfunction
types
breakdown further part 1, and which is more common

A
  1. CVA (cerebrovascular accident) or stroke
  2. TBI

stroke can be ischemic (80%) or hemorrhagic

Q

Occlusive/Ischemic CVA

  1. What is it?
  2. what is ischemia?
  3. What is an infarct?
  4. What are the 2 main types of occlusive CVA? What is the main difference?
A
  1. artery is blocked, blood supply to brain is cut off
  2. local/temporary loss of blood supply due to obtrsuction of the circulation to a part. Ischemia is reversible
  3. Death of tissue as a result of ischemia
  4. thrombotic and embolic . Where the block comes from

Q

Thrombolic CVA (TCVA)

  1. Where does block come from
  2. What might precede it?
  3. What are symptoms of these?
  4. What are txs?
A
  1. Plug of material (fatty deposits, fibrous material) arises at site of blockage
  2. warning signs i.e. TIAs (transient ischemic attacks)
  3. numbness/weakness one side of body, transient speech/L probs, transient vision loss
