L2 Final Flashcards
1
Q
Adult onset non-progressive dysarthria and AOS
- etiologies
- typical course
- type/characteristics of speech problems
A
- stroke, TBI
- sudden onset, neurologic recovery, stabilization
3, vary greatly depending on site of lesiona and extent of neurological damage
2
Q
Acute CNS injuries:
- what kind of events are they
- what are the effects (4)
- what is the last effect?
A
- ischemic
- a. edema
b. decreased in cerebral blood flow
c. abnormal release of neurotransmitters for a few weeks
d. diaschisis - diaschisis: If A & B are connected. Damage in A=problems with function in B (think of referred pain)
3
Q
Spontaneous Recovery Following Acute CNS Injury
A
Different patterns for different types of stroke and for TBI
4
Q
Causes of acute CNS dysfunction
types
breakdown further part 1, and which is more common
A
- CVA (cerebrovascular accident) or stroke
- TBI
stroke can be ischemic (80%) or hemorrhagic
5
Q
Occlusive/Ischemic CVA
- What is it?
- what is ischemia?
- What is an infarct?
- What are the 2 main types of occlusive CVA? What is the main difference?
A
- artery is blocked, blood supply to brain is cut off
- local/temporary loss of blood supply due to obtrsuction of the circulation to a part. Ischemia is reversible
- Death of tissue as a result of ischemia
- thrombotic and embolic . Where the block comes from
6
Q
Thrombolic CVA (TCVA)
- Where does block come from
- What might precede it?
- What are symptoms of these?
- What are txs?
A
- Plug of material (fatty deposits, fibrous material) arises at site of blockage
- warning signs i.e. TIAs (transient ischemic attacks)
- numbness/weakness one side of body, transient speech/L probs, transient vision loss
